Community Trail
Groveland Community Trail
This project consisted of designing, permitting, and construction of a Community Trail from King Street to Main Street. The trail is 3.25 miles long and suitable for pedestrians and non-motorized forms of transportation (bikes, rollerbladers, etc).
The project consists of the construction of a shared use trail along the former railroad corridor (Georgetown branch) from King Street at the Georgetown line northwest to Main Street. The trail will be 10 feet wide with 2-3 foot shoulders. A trail head and parking area will be built at King Street and at Main Street. The project length is approximately 2 miles and the trail crosses Ashcroft Terrace, School Street and Center Street. The project is part of the Merrimack River Trail system and a connection to the Border to Boston Trail.
While the Groveland portion of the trail is complete, both Haverhill and Georgetown need to construct their portion of the trail to connect to the greater Boarders to Boston trail system.
Funding
Funding for this project came from the Merrimack Valley Planning Commission’s 2020-2024 Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) for construction, and the Community Preservation Funds for design.
